Using these with Muse

Each person has one Muse, so it runs one persona at a time. Per Meta's help center, Muse's personality ("who your Muse is, including core truths, boundaries, and personality") lives in Soul.md, its name and tagline in Identity.md, and saved facts about you in Memory.md. You can ask Muse in chat to change its personality, or edit these files yourself.

  1. Back up your current Soul.md (Assistant icon → Identity → Soul) by copying its text somewhere safe.
  2. Paste the persona's prompt at the end of Soul.md under its own heading, e.g. ## Persona: Brief.
  3. Set the name (and tagline if you like) in Identity.md (Assistant icon → Identity → Edit).
  4. Test it in a new chat with the persona's example first task.
  5. To switch personas, remove that block or restore your backup. Meta also documents asking Muse: "Go back to your default personality."

Using these with Dots

A dot is ChatGPT's always-on agent. Each person has one dot that you name and customize, so it runs one persona at a time. You give it instructions for how you want it to work, and you can add optional Custom Rules in your ChatGPT settings for firmer boundaries.

  1. Give it the persona. Message your dot with the persona's prompt and ask it to follow it as its working instructions, e.g. "From now on, work as Brief, my Call-Prep Briefer: …".
  2. Name it to match the persona if you like (naming also updates its handle).
  3. Map the guardrails to Custom Rules. Custom Rules let you choose which supported actions your dot can take on its own, which need your approval, and which it should not take. Turn each persona guardrail into a rule. For example, "Always draft before sending" becomes Ask before sending any email, and "Never delete or merge CRM records" becomes a rule that it should not take that action.
  4. Connect only the tools the persona lists, in ChatGPT's Plugins tab.
  5. Test with the persona's example first task. To switch personas, tell your dot to stop using the old instructions, give it the new persona, and update your Custom Rules.

Custom Rules and instructions can't override ChatGPT's built-in safety requirements. Sources: Meet dots and Dots privacy, security, and safety FAQs. BotPlaybooks is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI.
